King

I enjoyed JYAG last night. The speaker, the pastor from KCPC, talked about Matthew 14, where a woman anointed Jesus with a bottle of perfume that cost one year's worth of wages. Jesus, aware of his identity, did not consider this a foolish act. The woman was one of the few who saw Jesus as He was and is - as our King who is worthy of our everything, even the most extravagant perfume. Imagine spending $50,000 to anoint a King. This isn't just any King, this is our King who gives us life, who gives us each breath, who gives us hope and eternal salvation. Accordingly, what can we offer to Him for what He has done? Clearly, there is nothing we can give him that will in any way equal what is due to him, but, what we have, we can offer. The speaker then talked about giving our time and our resources/money. Again, this struck a chord in me because I was personally convicted that there is much more I can do to honor Him in my life - such as spending my time on others instead of on me, instead of working out, playing guitar, baking, things that are personally fulfilling to me. Also, looking at my money or my time - what makes me so hesitant to offer to God things that He has given me, which are only mine temporarily in the first place? The woman in Matthew 14 understood who she was, that she was created to honor, glorify and worship God, our King, our Creator, and did not hold anything back - not even her best perfume. If we were to follow her example, which of our possessions (or the intanglibles) can we give back to God, just as a portion or token of thanksgiving and appreciation for what He has done?
